A June 2025 Pew Research Center analysis estimated the global Hindu population at close to 1.2 billion as of 2020. It found that about 99% of Hindus lived in the Asia-Pacific region, with the great majority residing in India.

The study estimates that the Hindu population expanded by roughly the same proportion as the world’s total population between 2010 and 2020. Its demographic categories help place Hindu traditions within global religious change, but numbers alone do not describe the variety of beliefs, devotional practices and philosophical schools within Hinduism.
