The festival honoring Bà Chúa Xứ Goddess at Sam Mountain in Vietnam joined UNESCO’s intangible heritage list in 2024. Its annual rituals bring together Kinh, Khmer, Cham and Hoa communities in Châu Đốc to express reverence and gratitude.
Ceremonies include processions, offerings, devotional music and the care of the goddess’s statue, including the renewal of its clothing and adornment. Participating communities contribute different responsibilities, making the event both an expression of belief and a setting for cultural exchange. UNESCO points to cooperation as a central part of the festival’s continuity.
